Description: Blue Lagoon near Grindavik stands upon the spreading centre rift in the southwest of the island. Here post glacial (both pre and post 1100 years), basic and intermediate lavas form a wide plain surrounding upper Pleistocene volcanic cones made up of basic and intermediate hyalocatitic and pillow lavas. View NW with volcanic cones of Doroarafell (163m) and Stapafell (146m) of upper Pleistoncene age are surrounded by younger lava fields.
