| Description: | Geos are formed by marine erosion along lines of weakness called 'crushes' or 'rucks'. The waves rush into these inlets or caves compressing air under great pressure against the cavity. On recoil the pressure is suddenly released. This alternate compression and expansion loosens the rock in any weaknesses and so over time forms the geo. Geo cut in the horizontal flagstones of the Thurso Group. This geo, the largest in Caithness, has two entrances from the sea, one by a narrow canyon and the other by a cave excavated through the cliff. |
