| Description: | Skara Brae is a small prehistoric village of six to eight houses, situated on the shore of the Bay of Skaill, on mainland Orkney. The settlement dates from c. 3100 to 2500 BC. Most of the houses display a remarkable uniformity of design. This view shows the interior of one of the houses with a dresser, constructed from local flagstone; and stone boxes, with joints cemented with clay to make them water-tight, in which limpets were soaked to make them effective for fish bait. |
