Description: Westmeston Church. Ripple-marked Weald Clay sandstone used in roofing. Slab of hard, fine-grained, ripple-marked sandstone from Weald Clay used in church roof. Stone slabs such as these are commonly found as roofing material in older buildings in the area and were obtained from beds within the Weald Clay such as Horsham Stone. The precise origin of this example is not known.
