Description: | An area of ancient metamorphic rocks, dated at c. 1000 Ma. that formed the root zone of the Caledonian orogeny, of rugged high relief that has undergone large-scale glacial sculpting that considerably modified the preglacial landscape. Mountains of Moine metasedimentary rocks with glacial features, in the foreground a moraine dam extends across the valley now breached by the River Shiel. The mountains on the skyline, Faochaig and Meallan Odhar show the development of corries. |
