Description: This mysterious specimen bears the numbers 2886. A four digit numbering system was used by Charles Darwin to archive his specimens from the Voyage of the Beagle � and this is probably another one of Darwin's fossils. At least seven similar slides are in the British Geological Survey collection. Age: unknown.
Additional information: From Collection F: Slides made by Charles M. Topping. Charles M. Topping (1800-1874) was another professional slide maker active from late 1830s. His slides commonly show 2 or 3 specimens mounted on a single slide. Slides from the Voyage of H.M.S. Beagle, 1831-1836.
