Description: | Spectacle E'e Falls, near Craig Bridge, 1.6 km. south-east of Strathaven, Lanarkshire. A waterfall. The postglacial 'hanging' junction of the Kype Water (tributary) with the Avon Water (foreground). The Kype, now flowing in drift for a few miles above the falls, enters a shallow gorge cut in Old Red Sandstone and Carboniferous Calciferous Sandstone lavas faulted against them, and falls about 40 m. over lavas to the Avon. The pre-glacial Kype channel was probably concordant to the Avon, but has been blocked by glacial drift. |
