Description: | Penrhyn Quarry, Bethesda. Looking ENE. Pre-Caledonian dolerite dyke. Probably of Upper Ordovician age, dykes of this type were strongly deformed during the Caledonian orogeny leading to the development of pinch and swell structures and quartz filled tension gashes which are here well illustrated. This example trends approximately perpendicular to the cleavage in the slates and locally jointing parallel to dyke margins is strongly developed. |
